Making New Business Connections
In the fast paced world of business, making business connections is crucial for
a business's expansion, growth and surviving the mass of competition. Business
connections give you the edge you need to make your company a success. The hard
task in networking is knowing who to contact and when you need to initiate the
contact. A good manger knows that running a company means constantly obtaining
new information and possible partners to partake in your business ventures.
The first thing that you need to consider when making business connections is
what kind of connections will best suit your company's need. Do you perhaps need
to boost your company's image and therefore need to start networking with
graphic designers who will make you business cards? Maybe its sales, do you need
to get in touch with a good advertising company who will help you boost sales?
The questions are endless, but in order to find a starting point they need to
exist.
The logical step when deciding which type of business connections would suit your
company is to make a questionnaire for yourself. If expansion is what you intend
to do then you need to consider, is it a merger or a partnership that will suit
your company best. This questionnaire will be your guide to what kind of business
connections that you will need to pursue or explore. Remember the law of the four
w's, who, what, why and when. These need to be incorporated into your questionnaire.
After you are satisfied with your questionnaire, its down to the research.
Researching the opportunities that are available to you should be seen as a
mandatory part of your networking plans. The more you know about the person or
company that you intend to join ventures with the higher the chance of you making
new business connections. Research also means using all the different sources
available at your disposal.
Then it's down to taking action and initiating contact. You need to get in touch
with the person or organization that you intend to add as your new business
connection. Perhaps inviting them to a luncheon or a friendly game of golf, will
give you a more personal approach. Use the knowledge you have gathered to your
advantage and incorporate it when planning the appropriate meeting place. It will
show the people involved the length of interest you have taken to reinforce or create
a new relationship with them. And first impressions always last, that is not a cliché.
