3 Keys To Happy Managing
Managing the day to day task of running a business along with the never ending drive to increase sales and productivity can take a toll on your emotions. Look into ways to improve the way you run your business and things that will lighten your load. Make a daily task sheet, but don't beat yourself up if you don't complete it. Schedule weekly meetings that outline goals for the next week and reflect on the goals met from the week before. Always do your best to keep a positive perspective on things and don't let minor set-backs drag you down. Try following the 3 ideas below to improve managing the balance between your business and your life.
1. Don't Take Things Out On Others
Learn to know yourself and monitor when you are feeling overwhelmed. You have an inner gauge that will warn you when it is time to take a break. Before yelling at an employee or telling a customer who wont stop complaining to go take a hike, take your own advice! If you're thinking of telling an employee to pack their bags maybe deep inside you need to pack yours. The moral here is be sure you get time to yourself to enjoy the things you love. If you take breaks to do the things you enjoy frequently enough you may find that the complaining customer just needed acknowledgement and your employee was only trying the best way they knew how.
2. Don't Give Up
When things look bleak and you feel you have thrown in your last towel, seek out encouragement. You are not alone in the many numbers of people who have started a business or are trying to get their business off the ground and running. It is not always an easy path but remember you are doing this because you love it and it is your dream. Your doing this because you have a goal, a vision of something more. Join a small business network or hire a life coach, learn how to manage your business and your life so you can regain the feeling of balance.
"Better to do something imperfectly than to do nothing flawlessly."
-Robert H. Schuller
3. Learn the Art Of Listening
A great leader whether selling or training knows that listening to what the other person is truly saying is the key to customer management and employee management. If you don't know what the other person is asking or telling, then you won't be able to sell them what they are really looking for, or teach them what they are seeking to learn. Think how much you get annoyed when you have to spend time with someone who thinks they know everything and yet won't take the time to listen to others. How can someone who doesn't seem to want to listen to you know anything about you. When you start listening to others you will gain the knowledge of managing, and will gain respect which will earn you more customers, and better employees.
